What purpose motivates my life?

“Whatever purpose motivates your life, it must be something big enough and grand enough to make the investment worthwhile.” -Warren Wiersbe

Is the purpose that motivates my life worth it? When I read this quote, I started thinking…Whatever it is that I feel like is my purpose in life might seem like it’s worth it, but that’s only if I actually succeed. What happens if I fail? What happens if I don’t fulfill that purpose? Is the investment still worthwhile? Will everything I put into it-time, money, heart and mind-still be worth it? I’d have to say no…If I don’t fulfill that purpose, it will all seem like a waste. If I don’t succeed, my money would be much better spent helping people now than paying for college so I can help people later; my time would be much better spent with friends and family, doing things that I enjoy. All of these things would be wasted preparing for a future that never happens.

What if the purpose that motivating my life was to glorify God and nothing else? What if that was what I invested my heart and mind, time and money into? If I put everything into it, could it ever not be worthwhile? “Continually restate to yourself what the purpose of your life is.” -Oswald Chambers. This quote came before the other one and it’s what first got me thinking. My purpose in life is to bring glory to God. There is no other reason for me to be alive. There are things I can strive for that will help me bring glory to Him in special ways; we each have gifts and talents that He uses, and He has a purpose behind all of our gifts. But those things shouldn’t be what motivates our lives. What we think is His plan for our lives could change at any moment. Then what purpose would motivate our lives, if the original one no longer existed? That seems like a lot of confusion and stress to me…wouldn’t it be simpler just to live for Him and follow His plans as they seem to change? (He knows what He’s doing all along, of course. But as humans, we can’t comprehend where His path is leading us and sometimes what we thought was His plan was really just a step He used to get us farther on His path.) I know it’s not easy, but once we accept that we don’t know where He’s leading us and choose to follow anyway, we never really have to be afraid of the future. If we let Him lead, the journey won’t always be fun, but the destination will be perfect! :)

So far, I’ve mastered the grilled cheese.

Glad I’m not the only one who can’t cook…haha!

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
